The successful insertion of genetic
material from the demoiselle fly Agrion virgo, a member
of the order Odonata (dragonflies), into the D.N.A. of
a member of the order Lepidoptera (specifically Papilio
ulysses joesa) was carried out under conditions of zero
gravity by spatio-temporal entomologists aboard the
research vessel Baron von Munchausen the Third en route
to Ganymede, in the Terran year 2076 A.D. The results
were for the most part entirely predictable, with the
curious exception of the external anatomy of the 3rd
instar of the resultant F111 hybrid.
Informed speculation in the
close-knit research community on Ganymede is that the
aberrations are the result of the introduction of a
`rogue' gene, probably from the Australian freshwater
crayfish; (or Yabbie as it is quaintly known by
the few remaining descendants of the near-mythical
`Orstraylians'; historical conjecture would have that
this myopic & insular nation disappeared up it's
own fundus in pursuit [presumably] of itself in the
Terran year 2000. The Ganymedan chapter of the
fundamentalist D'WANK group (`Darwin WAs Not a Knice
man') was as usual expected to claim responsibility
for this predictably banal & self-denying
refutation of evolutionary theory. For the sake of
clarity and to maximise offence to any dinosauric
Arcturan creationist who might visit the exhibition,
only the aberrant 2nd, 3rd, 11/12/13th & 24/25th
instars of this otherwise unremarkable animal are
displayed.
